i’ve been there.

Bio Shot 1.jpg

I’ve felt so disconnected from my creativity that I thought a part of me was dead.

I’ve been so scared I was right that I didn’t even want to look.

I put up all sorts of walls to avoid my creative impulses.

And in the process, I suffered.

It wasn’t a meaningful way to live.

It felt like something grave was at stake: an essential part of me, or an essential part of the person I knew I could be but that didn’t feel quite within reach.

So I stopped avoiding the pain, and I stepped into it.

I faced down the self-doubt, the self-criticism, the impostor syndrome, the believing I-can’t-do-it, nobody-cares-what-I-have-to-say, who-am-I-to ___________.

You fill in the blank.

It wasn’t always easy. It’s still a process. But…

I waded through my muck to get to my light.

To a thriving relationship with my creative self (which lets me feel whole and embrace all of me)

To a life that affirms and integrates the many varied aspects of myself so I can amplify my voice, share my stories with confidence, and empower others to do the same.

Because that’s why I’m here.

I’m here to help you wade through your muck to get to your light.

No matter whether you think your creative self is dead.

No matter whether you consider yourself “a real writer.”

No matter whether you haven’t finished writing a story in your life.

No matter whether you think you and the people around you are simply b-o-r-i-n-g.

Your creativity is not dead.

You are an interesting person.

Your stories matter.

You have the resources you need to tell them.

Beautifully.

All it takes is the courage to try. And the willingness to believe that maybe, just maybe, it’s possible after all.

I’ll be your cheerleader every step of the way.

The nitty-gritty

My name is Laura Newcomer, and I’ve been writing since about the time I could walk. (My big sister taught me.) My career consists of a series of twists and turns all marked by my guiding passions: writing, creativity, social and environmental justice, entrepreneurship, teaching, and farming. (Yes, I believe they can all coexist. I believe it’s wonderful be all of you.)

For the past 12 years or so, I’ve been writing and editing professionally (among many other ventures and adventures). My work has taken me from a stint at National Geographic to a New York City content startup, a mid-Atlantic liberal arts college, Maine ecology schools, and self-employment as a copywriter & content strategist in rural Pennsylvania and the Rocky Mountains of Colorado.

I’ve written hundreds of pieces for publication and edited at least as many. I’ve earned awards and accolades for my writing and my editing. I’ve taught creative writing to middle schoolers, cancer survivors, and adults who’re feeling stuck. I’ve guided entrepreneurs + developed content strategy across a huge range of industries (from event planning to higher education to coaching and content creation).

I’ve been a hotline crisis counselor. I’ve been a teacher. I’ve been a leadership facilitator. I’ve been a backpacking trip leader. I’m a gardener. I’m a yoga teacher. I’m an activist. I’m a multipotentialite. I’m a writer. My life is my greatest creation.

Today, my primary passion is helping people lead more creative, more fulfilling lives. I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t know that I can help you live yours.
